You want a basic information site for your business or project. You don’t want it to be a long, expensive process; or to be bamboozled by techy stuff; or to be left with something that doesn’t serve you.

But you do want it to be a site you’re happy with, that does a good job of representing you and draws in your audience. You’re ready to put some time into getting that if you have someone to support you through the process and make it happen.

The Website Starter package may be what you’re looking for. It gives you a simple, compact WordPress site that does a good job of telling people who you are and what you do.

What you get

This package is designed to stick to the basics and put the focus where it does most good: supporting you through the process, and supporting your message. It gets you going quickly with a site that’s a good fit for you and attractive to your audience.

That’s not just a matter of picking a design and colour scheme you like and throwing some words out. Those things are giving out a message about you that your visitors will pick up on, and for your site to really feel like it fits all the elements need to be pointing in the right direction.

The package includes the site framework and up to 5 pages (eg home, about, a first blog post and a couple about your services). For the appearance of the site we’ll choose an off-the-shelf professional theme with mobile-friendly design – I’ll make suggestions to fit your message elements.

The WordPress platform powers millions of websites. It makes it easy to manage your site yourself by typing text and clicking buttons. You can add posts and pages with a couple of clicks, and add new features when you want them.

Here’s the broad-brush version of what happens once we’ve agreed to work together. We’ll keep in touch throughout the process.

Exploration. We have a conversation to draw out the lie of the land for the project. We’ll look at your message elements and branding to guide the design. We’ll also go through what content you want to include in the site and the best way to structure that.

Preparation. I help you set up the hosting and domain name. You work on supplying the text and graphics. I look at display themes and suggest one or two that would be a good fit.

Implementation. I set up the site and get the theme working. I create the pages with your text and graphics, including an editing pass. I’ll add a few suggested plugins (add-ons) for useful functions. We’ll go over the draft site and identify any changes needed.

Finished! Once it’s all sorted and you’re happy, the site is all yours. The package includes after-sales support to make sure everything’s working (but not extended tech support).

What does it cost?

The investment for this package is £800.

If you want to add more options, we can certainly discuss that. For instance creating a customised theme, or helping to set up a mailing list.
